Controlled Socket for the WatchDog_Max USB Timer

The Controlled Socket (CS) is a device designed to safely interrupt a standard ~220V, 50Hz AC electrical circuit in order to temporarily power-cycle connected electrical appliances. The Controlled Socket is primarily used in conjunction with the WatchDog_Max (WD) to hard-reboot external network equipment (such as routers, switches, and modems) if the internet connection is lost.

An electromechanical relay acts as the core switching element. The relay is normally closed (NC), meaning that by default, the equipment plugged into the socket remains powered on. When a control signal is applied by the watchdog module, the relay contacts open, instantly cutting power to the load. Once the control signal is removed, power is restored, effectively forcing a hard reboot of the equipment. The required control signal is a direct current (DC) of 8-12 mA at a voltage not exceeding 3 V. The input signal polarity does not matter, simplifying installation. To connect the Controlled Socket to the WD module, it utilizes a dedicated cable featuring a standard plug on one end and bare wires terminated with brass, solder-tinned ferrules on the other.

A built-in dual-color LED indicator is provided for visual status monitoring. A yellow-to-orange glow indicates that the socket’s output is currently energized and the connected equipment is powered on. A red glow indicates that the relay is open, output power is cut, and the connected devices are currently powered off.
